Former Bolton Wanderers skipper Kevin Nolan is interested in the vacant managerial position at the University of Bolton Stadium as reported by Sky Sports.
Nolan made three hundred and forty-five appearances for the Trotters in a ten-year spell which saw the club win promotion to the Premier League and establish themselves in the top flight.
Bolton are currently managerless following the resignation of Phil Parkinson last week, and Sky Sports are claiming they understand Nolan would be keen to take control but only under the auspices of new owners.
Bolton have been in administration since May and sit second from bottom in League One having been deducted twelve points before the start of the season.
However, the future of the club has been put in fresh doubt after the EFL issued a statement yesterday giving the club until Tuesday to complete the proposed takeover by Football Ventures or face being given notice to withdraw from the Football League. The deal was reportedly close to completion on Friday night, but it is claimed previous owner Ken Anderson changed his demands at the last minute.
Nolan is currently doing media work after leaving Notts County last season. He guided County to the League Two playoffs in his first season but left early in the 2018/19 campaign as the controversial ownership of Alan Hardy began to disintegrate. Previous to his spell at Meadow Lane he was in the hot seat at Leyton Orient.
Our View
Nolan would not be a bad shout as Bolton manager; he did very well at County in his first season.
However, after the latest EFL statement, the future of the club is once again in doubt, and its hoped the takeover of the club goes through so the new owners can install their man.
It remains to be seen if it will be Nolan, but if the new owners want to gain immediate popularity with a large section of the fan base, it would be a very good appointment.
