Northampton Town’s poor start to the season continued with a dramatic 2-1 defeat to managerless Macclesfield Town on Saturday.
Theo Archibald scored a last-minute winner to condemn the Cobblers to their second home defeat of the season and secure the Silkmen their second League Two win on the bounce.
It was another below-par performance from Keith Curles men who’d been tipped for a big season by many pundits following a busy summer of transfer business. However, they now have only one point from three games, and after a summer of high expectation, many disappointed supporters are already questioning the ability of manager Keith Curle.
Curle arrived at Sixfields in November 2018, and he’s comprehensively rebuilt the squad that finished fifteenth in 2018/19.
While it is common football opinion that it can sometimes take time for new signings to settle, patience was running thin amongst many Cobblers’ fans on social media when they reacted to a dire display that was tawdry in defence and lacking ideas in attack.

Where to start with that? No quality whatsoever, no real hunger from the players, no clear strategy and a deserved loss. This club is going nowhere at the moment, it needs a proper coach with a clear vision ASAP. The brand of football served up today was absolutely dire.
