26-year-old seeks Peterborough United exit

Peterborough United midfielder Alex Woodyard is hunting another club, after being left out of yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Ipswich Town, as reported by BBC reported Sam Edwards.

The former Lincoln City man captained Posh last season and is currently vice-captain at London Road, but he’s set to leave Peterborough if a fresh destination can be found.

Sam Edwards said that manager Darren Ferguson didn’t come out to speak to press following yesterday’s draw, but revealed that the 26-year-old is actively seeking a new club. He also explained that Ferguson has been trying all summer to sign a new central midfielder, but thus far his search has been frustrating.

News that Woodyard is seeking a new club might come as a shock to many. He played 51 times last season as they narrowly missed out on a play-off place and he began this season in the middle of the park for Posh.

However, it seems in the wake of their 1-0 defeat against Oxford last week, Woodyard has been deemed surplus to requirements.

The 26-year-old began his career with Southend United, later playing for Dartford, Concord Rangers and Braintree before moving to Lincoln City. He won a National League title with the Imps, then lifted the EFL Trophy before his summer 2018 move to Posh.

Our View

Peterborough fans are once again being sold a dream that the players can’t back up. Plenty of fans had them tipped as automatic promotion contenders but they’ve had a tepid start to the season.

Luke Chambers’ late strike cost them their first win of the campaign yesterday, but they still managed to get their first point on the board.

Given their spend in the summer, plus their resolve in holding on to Ivan Toney, fans will surely have hoped for much, much more, even at this early stage.

With Woodyard looking for a new club, it seems the summer recruitment drive hasn’t plugged all of the gaps in the Posh squad.
