‘Disgrace’, ‘Delusional’ – Many Rotherham fans react to home defeat by Lincoln City

The joy of Rotherham United’s winning start last weekend was quickly erased as they went down 2-0 at home to Lincoln City in League One yesterday.

In a game the Millers had chances to win early on, they were undone by conceding just before half time and just after. Matthew Olosunde had come closest when he flashed an effort wide of Josh Vickers’ goal, but the Imps took the lead just before the break when Tyler Walker’s effort from a smart free kick was turned in by Shaun MacDonald.

The Millers needed a response quickly, instead going 2-0 down within five minutes of the restart. Jorge Grant’s corner found an unmarked Harry Anderson who nodded easily passed Daniel Iversen. Jamie Proctor had a late opportunity to reduce arrears, but Vickers pulled off a super save to keep another clean sheet for Danny Cowley’s side.

Miller’s boss Paul Warne admitted his side ‘didn’t do enough’, pointing to the slow nature of the game in the latter stages as part of the reason for the defeat.

“I don’t blame Lincoln for doing this, but they slowed the game down literally to its death,” he told the club’s official website.

“It frustrated our players a bit and when we did get on the ball we weren’t as cool as I would have liked us on it.

“I didn’t think the second-half performance was great and we didn’t make their ‘keeper work hard enough. I wasn’t over the moon with the performance. We didn’t do enough to warrant a draw.”

Whilst Warne lamented his side’s luck, some supporters were expressing their anger on Twitter. They feel their side could perhaps have done a little more to win the game against a side who hadn’t won at Rotherham since 1957.
