Walsall’s busy summer continued yesterday when the Saddlers made their fifteenth signing of the transfer window.
Manager Darrell Clarke boosted his attacking options with the capture of Caolan Lavery on an undisclosed-length contract following his release from Sheffield United.
The twenty-six-year-old striker is something of a lucky charm having achieved promotion in each of the last three seasons with various clubs. He helped the Blades reach the Championship in 2016/17 and did the same when on loan at Rotherham during the next campaign. Last season another loan spell at Bury saw the striker add a League Two promotion to his CV, making twenty-three outings and scoring five goals as the Shakers finished runners-up to Lincoln.
Lavery began his career at Sheffield Wednesday, where he enjoyed loan spells at Southend, Plymouth, Chesterfield and Portsmouth before crossing the city to the Blades in 2016.
The number of clubs the forward’s racked up was not lost on some supporters when they took to social media to react to the signing. Most Walsall fans seemed happy with the addition, and many Sheffield United fans were complimentary about their former player.
Here is a small selection of supporter reaction to the signing on Twitter.

If he’s fit he should have field day in that League.

He’s a good player on his day and was ok for us but was never clinical and was injury prone
