‘Seems like a natural finisher,’ ‘He’s exactly what we need!’ – Coventry fans react to latest striker transfer speculation

Coventry City have agreed on a deal to sign Peterborough United striker Matty Godden as reported by Football Insider.

The report claims the striker is scheduled for a medical later today after a breakthrough in talks between the two clubs. Godden scored eighteen goals for Peterborough last season but was not involved in their opening day defeat at home to Fleetwood and would appear to be a victim of the massive summer overhaul of Darren Ferguson’s squad.

The twenty-eight-year-old signed for Peterborough last summer on a three-year deal following a successful spell at Stevenage, managing an impressive tally of thirty-five goals in eighty-eight outings in Hertfordshire. He spent two years at Broadhall Way after previously playing for Ebbsfleet, Tamworth and Dartford in non-league.

Coventry fans soon took to social media to comment on the speculation with many very happy at the news. Manager Mark Robins has been searching for a striker since the departure of Conor Chaplin, and recently missed out on Tyler Walker who chose to go to League One rivals Lincoln City rather than the Sky Blues.

Many fans believe a permanent deal for Godden is better than a loan for Walker and optimism is rising amongst the Sky Blues faithful as this selection of tweets illustrates.
