Sunderland opened their League One campaign with a draw against Oxford United, a result that hasn’t left fans with a lot to cheer this week.
Whilst a draw is usually an acceptable result for a club on an opening day, for the Black Cats it was a reflection of everything that went wrong last season. Had they won a handful more games they’d have been in the Championship now.
They didn’t, they struggled to turn draws into wins and that left them in the play-offs, rather than the top two. after a pre-season in which a lack of goals has been a problem, this result is just a continuation of the fans disappointment.
They travel away to Ipswich Town this weekend, knowing they have to grab a win, even at this early stage. Jack Ross will feel the pressure mount until he gets the first three points, or until the supporters see tangible evidence of improvement.
They’ve been out on the training ground working hard today, something advertised by their social media team on Twitter. Naturally, after a result such as the one on Saturday, a few fans have had a few things to say.
