‘Fun’s over, announce real CB now’ – Plenty of fans react as Ipswich make late summer signing

Ipswich Town moved for former Sheffield United defender James Wilson yesterday, securing him to a six-month deal.

The centre back once played for Wales against Belgium, facing Romelu Lukaku, but spent much of last season sat on the bench for Lincoln City as they won League Two. He joined the Imps from Sheff Utd in 2017, following a loan spell with Walsall.

Injury blighted his Imps career but he’s now looking to force his way into the reckoning at Portman Road, telling the Ipswich Twitter feed; “I want to play as much as I can.”

It’s not going to be an easy setup to break into, but being handed the number 5 shirt could be a psychological boost if nothing else. The 29-year-old is eager to prove himself after his recent disappointments, as well as hoping to secure his long-term future.

Ipswich fans have been a little underwhelmed with the signing and as usual, a few Norwich fans have taken time out from their Premier League preparations to pass comment as well.

Here’s the best of the Twitter reaction from the past 24 hours.
