Jamal Lowe has finally completed his protracted move to the Championship, signing for Wigan Athletic for an undisclosed fee.
The 25-year-old has been the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, finally completing his switch this evening.
He scored 29 goals in 119 appearances during his two-and-a-half years at Fratton Park after signing from Hampton and Richmond in January 2017. It’s believed he was allowed to leave for less than the £3m asking price, a figure Pompey had remained focused on all summer.
Boss Kenny Jackett issued a brief statement on the club’s official site, saying: “Everyone at Pompey wishes Jamal well at his new club and we thank him for what he achieved with us.”
The winger now reunites with former manager Paul Cook, the man who signed him for Pompey before leaving the club in the summer of 2017. he’s hoping to keep Wigan in the Championship this season, despite them being amongst the favourites for the drop.
The move has surprised a few Portsmouth fans who feel their side are likely to go up, whilst Lowe’s new employers are likely to come down. Both sets of fans have been indulging each other on Twitter, as you’ll see below.

Good luck to him. Just find it odd considering Wigan are one of the favourites to go down and we have a strong chance of going up

Wish him well, great player. Could’ve gone to a much bigger club than Wigan though, there’s a fair chance he’ll be back in League one next season.
