‘Really, really underwhelmed’ – These Walsall fans are not exactly excited by the latest signing

Walsall have signed Rory Holden on a season-long loan from Bristol City.

The winger has been on trial with the Saddlers and travelled with Darrel Clarke’s squad to their pre-season training camp in Poland. His capture his Clarke’s twelfth summer signing.

The twenty-one-year-old signed for Bristol City from his hometown club Derry City in 2017 but he’s yet to make a senior appearance for the Robins. Last season he did enjoy loan spells at Barrow in the National League, and Rochdale in League One where he made seven outings.

Robins manager Lee Johnson highly rates Holden who signed a new two-year contract at Ashton Gate earlier in the summer. However, judging by the reaction of some Walsall fans on social media, they do not seem to share Johnson’s high opinion of the Northern Ireland Under-21 international.

The club’s promise of a busy day of signings did not get off to a good start, as you will see from the reaction of these fans on Twitter to the news that Holden will spend next season at the Bescot.
