Blackpool sign Norwich City defender amid renewed Bola exit speculation

Blackpool have signed Norwich City defender James Husband amid renewed speculation that Marc Bola is close to the exit door at Bloomfield Road.

The defender is currently out of the first-team picture at Carrow Road, and he joins the Seasiders on a season-long loan deal. He spent last season on loan at Fleetwood Town, making thirty-six outings for the Cod Army. He looks set to be the Seasiders replacement for Bola, who is close to sealing a move to the Championship with Middleborough according to a tweet this morning from reliable journalist Alan Nixon.

Husband began his career with Doncaster before sealing his own move to Middlesborough in 2014. He made only a handful of appearances on Teeside but did enjoy loan spells at Fulham and Huddersfield before signing for Norwich in 2017.

He’s made twenty-two outings for the Canaries, but he’s been out of the reckoning since the emergence of Jamal Lewis, and he is not part of Daniel Farke’s Premier League plans.

The twenty-five-year-old is entering the final year of his deal at Carrow Road and will therefore be available on a free transfer at the end of his stint on the north-west coast.

Our View

Simon Grayson has moved quickly to replace Bola, who will be a hard act to follow.

Husband looks a decent signing and Blackpool fans will be reasonably pleased with potentially getting money in for Bola and signing a player on-loan who, if he impresses, will be available on a free next summer.

He’s not pulled up any trees for Norwich but impressed at Fleetwood, and he is a more than adequate League One left-back.
