Plymouth Argyle’s pre-season took a surprising turn last night as they ended up on the right side of a remarkable 9-3 scoreline.
Even by the standards of pre-season, their game against Buckland Athletic was an odd one. In a game where one side manages to score nine, it’s unusual for the other side to net three.
Still, a youthful Argyle certainly looked impressive and they could take plenty of positives away from the encounter, not least a debut goal within seconds of kick off for new signing Byron Moore.
The 30-year-old became the fifth player to leave Bury for the south coast and within seconds of his debut he was amongst the goals. He only bagged once, but was withdrawn at half time with the score 4-2 to the visitors.
Equally as impressive were the showings of Welsh Under 21 international Luke Jephcott, as well as Tom Purrington. Both were amongst the goals and gave manager Ryan Lowe some extra angles to consider ahead of the season opener.
It will be Moore’s goal that caught the eye though, with fans reacting on Twitter to the striker’s debut.

Reckon he’ll score against Rovers in the checkatrade and that’ll be his contribution for the season 😔
