Late last week Jack Ross suggested that Max Power wouldn’t be fit for the start of the season. It seemed a blow at the time, arguably one of their strongest players on his day missing the season opener.
Without a pre-season behind him it might be late August before he’s in, but by then much could have been decided. A bad start might have cost jack Ross, or a new face might have claimed Power’s starting place.
Footage from their pre-season tour of Portugal seems to suggest that Power is closer to fitness than many think.
He’s been filmed taking part in training, volleying home from distance in a bid to prove his fitness. When you also consider George Honeyman was left at home injured, but Power travelled, perhaps he’s closer than you might imagine to a return to action.
It was hinted at this morning that he might be involved in some way; a short clip of a passing drill showed him taking part.
That was confirmed later on as he was shown volleying into the back of the net from distance. These videos haven’t happened by accident either, Sunderland are teasing fans with hints he might be closer to fitness than previously suggested.
Plenty of fans had something to say on the matter too, both on this morning’s video and the one released this afternoon.
Is that power doing the chasing? Thought he was out for the start of the season? Seemingly moving quite well?
