Plymouth Argyle are in ‘pole position’ to sign Wolves striker Niall Ennis as reported by Football Insider.
Reporter Pete O’Rourke claims the Premier League club are prepared to loan out Ennis this summer so that he can continue his development with regular first-team football.
Several EFL clubs have made enquiries about taking Ennis on loan for next season, but League Two Plymouth are in pole position to land the England Under-19 international according to the report, having entered advanced talks over a loan move with the teenager.
The youngster came through the ranks at Wolves to be capped by England at Under-19, Under-18s and Under-17s levels. He enjoyed a loan spell at Shrewsbury in 2017/18 but made only two outings for Salop before a serious knee injury forced his return to Molineux.
He has made one senior appearance for Wolves, in last season’s FA Cup, and the report suggests he is highly thought of in the Black Country, having been a regular scorer at Under-23 level.
Ennis signed a new three-year deal with Wolves in December 2017.
Our View
We are not going to pretend to be experts on the Wolves Under-23 side, but it does appear that Ennis possesses some talent and has performed well at that level.
At Nineteen, a period in League Two playing against experienced professionals with points at stake will only aid his development and Argyle could benefit if he fulfils some of his potential at Home Park.
Pilgrims manager Ryan Lowe sets up sides to create chances so the young player should have plenty of opportunities to prove his worth to his parent club as he enters the final year of his contract.
