Bristol Rovers striker attracting Championship and League One interest

Jonson Clarke-Harris is in demand according to a report by HITC Sport.

The Bristol Rovers striker is attracting interest from the Championship and League One with several clubs preparing to make a move for the forward before the window closes the report claims.

Clarke-Harris enjoyed a tremendous second-half of 2018/19 after joining Rovers from Coventry in January. The twenty-four-year-old scored eleven goals in an eleven game spell to fire the Gas clear of League One relegation trouble.

It was a remarkable run of form for Clarke-Harris who had previously failed to hit those heights at former clubs such as Rotherham, Oldham, Doncaster and MK Dons. He won League One Player of the Month for April, and his fantastic strike against Gillingham was nominated for Goal of the Season.

Not surprisingly his displays have piqued the attention of clubs higher up the EFL, and although Rovers are desperate to keep him, there is a release clause in his contract and the Gas could be tempted to cash in if the right level of bid comes in due to tight finances at the club according to reporter Pete O’Rourke.

The striker is currently recovering from a minor off-season operation and as a result, has not returned for Rovers pre-season preparations yet.

Our View

Not surprising there is speculation after the strikers form in the run-in and Rovers fans will be hoping that’s all it is, speculation.

Clarke-Harris was developing into a bit of a journeyman until he arrived at Rovers and he should be careful on his next decision.

Sometimes players just gel with their surroundings, and Rovers fans love him, it would in our opinion be a gamble for the club who signs him and the player if he does move on.

He should stay at Rovers and prove himself over a whole season before he even thinks of moving on or a club higher up thinks about signing him.
