Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady has signed a new contract with the Black Cats.
The thirty-three-year-old was entering the final year of his current deal at the Stadium of Light, and there had been speculation linking him with a move away from Wearside, but the Republic of Ireland international is now contracted to stay at the club until 2021.
McGeady is a key player for the Lads. He was the club’s second highest scorer last season, finding the net fourteen times across all competitions.
He played through the pain barrier at the end of the season after breaking a bone in his foot in April but saw his game time restricted due to the injury, and many fans felt this contributed to Sunderland missing out on automatic promotion and failing in the playoffs.
He was brought to the club by Simon Grayson in a bargain £250,000 move from Everton in 2017 and supporters can now look forward to watching his trickery for a further year.
The news was greeted with delight by many fans on social media with many feeling it will be the best signing Jack Ross makes all summer.
