Ryan Lowe met Plymouth Argyle supporters at a fans forum last night and wasted no time in singing the praises of one of his new signings.
Lowe signed Danny Mayor last week after the winger left Bury to rejoin his old boss on the Devon Coast. The pair enjoyed a successful season in 2018/19 winning promotion to League One despite the Shakers off-field problems with Mayor capping an incredible campaign with a place in League Two’s Team of the Year.
The gifted attacker had been in talks with several clubs after his contract at Gigg Lane expired but decided Argyle was the place for him to further his career.
The twenty-eight-year-old made one hundred and ninety-three appearances for Bury, scoring thirty-one goals and became a firm favourite with the Gigg Lane faithful during a five-year stint in which he won two League Two promotions.
Mayor’s capture by Lowe is something of a coup for Argyle with the winger able to operate in the number ten role and so adding much-needed creativity to the squad after the summer departures of Argyle favourites Graham Carey and Ruben Lameiras.
Lowe was in a confident mood over his new signing telling the Argyle fans that he was better than both of their departed playmakers, a statement that sparked quite a reaction on social media amongst plenty of Pilgrim supporters.
Here is a selection of their responses to Lowe’s confident opinion that Argyle now have the best number ten in the league who is better than both Carey and Lameiras.
That’s a very, very big statement to make…
