Former Mansfield boss in frame for Doncaster Rovers job

Former Mansfield Town manager David Flitcroft is one of the managers being considered for the vacant Doncaster Rovers role, as reported by the Suns’ Alan Nixon.

Rovers are without a manager since Grant McCann jumped ship to Hull City and despite strong links with Steve Evans, they remain without a boss.

It’s now believed that former Swindon and Bury supremo Flitcroft is in the frame for the role. He’s recently been sacked by ambitious Mansfield Town after guiding them to fourth in League Two last season.

He went to Field Mill during the 2017/18 season, having taken Swindon into the top seven. The Robins subsequently fell away, as did Mansfield and a second season of disappointment led to his dismissal.

Flitcroft played for Chester, Rochdale and Bury during his modest career, but has also managed Barnsley and Bury. he saved the former from Championship relegation in 2013 and helped Bury to promotion out of League Two in 2015.

Our View

Madness, utter madness. Flitcroft is not the right man for the Doncaster job and the interest reeks of desperation.

They’ve been dropped right in it with McCann leaving and there are few managers available who could do a decent job there. Darren Moore would be a better choice, Flitcroft hasn’t proven himself at all in recent seasons.

He had a big budget at Mansfield and paid the price for not being able to put it to the right us.
