Portsmouth sign 26-year-old defender from Norwich City

Portsmouth have signed defender Sean Raggett on a season-long loan from Norwich City.

The twenty-six-year-old spent last season on loan with Rotherham, but injury hampered his progress, and he made just seven league appearances for the Millers.

Raggett has made just two substitute outings for Norwich since arriving at Carrow Road from Lincoln City on a three-year deal in 2017.

The left-sided centre-half began his career at Dover, but It was at Sincil Bank where he first caught the eye, producing a string of commanding performances at the heart of the Imps defence as they won the National League title and reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup in 2016/17. Indeed, he hit the national headlines when scoring the winner in Lincoln’s shock fifth-round defeat of Premier League Burnley at Turf Moor.

After signing for the Canaries, he was immediately loaned back to the Imps and played an influential role in the first half of the 2017/18 season, helping Lincoln establish themselves in League Two and provide a platform for their run to the playoffs in their first season back in the EFL.

Portsmouth have announced there is no call back option in the deal which means a full year at Fratton Park for Raggett.

Our View

Raggett is a fantastic player and having watched him many times; we can confirm Portsmouth have signed a real talent.

Strong as an ox and a towering presence in the air he is an old fashioned defender who can play a bit given a chance.

He is also a real threat at set-pieces and scored some vital goals for Lincoln during his time at Sincil Bank.

His career has been stop-start since he left the Imps, but it is an excellent opportunity for him to get back on track at Fratton Park.
