Joe Edwards has become Ryan Lowe’s first signing as Plymouth Argyle manager.
Edwards arrives at Home Park after three seasons with Walsall.
Edwards began his career at Bristol City where he spent time on loan at Yeovil before signing for the Glovers permanently in 2013. After two and a half years and over one hundred outings, the midfielder left for Colchester United. He joined in Walsall in 2016 after a season in Exxex and went on to rack up one hundred and three appearances across all competitions in his three campaigns for the Saddlers.
The West Midlands outfit released Edwards after their last terms relegation to League Two.
The twenty-eight-year-old made twenty-one appearances in the second half of 2018/19 after battling back to fitness following a severe knee injury which left him on the sidelines for close to a year.
Gloucester-born Edwards can also play as a full-back and so brings versatility as well as experience to Lowe’s squad as the new Pilgrim’s boss looks to mount a challenge for an immediate return to League One next season.
Our View
Many Saddlers fans hold Edwards in high regard with some suggesting not offering him a new contract was Darrell Clarke’s only mistake when he wealed the axe on Walsall’s relegated squad following his appointment in May.
He is solid and dependable and will bring experience versatility and no little ability to Lowe’s squad.
A very decent first signing by the former Bury boss.
