Mansfield Town boss expects striker to stay amid Bradford City interest

Mansfield Town boss John Dempster has indicated he expects Danny Rose to stay with the club, despite being the subject of interest from several different clubs.

Speaking to the Mansfield Chad, he revealed there had been enquiries for the striker, who saw his chances limited last season under David Flitcroft. He bagged 17 the season before and despite reported interest from Salford City, Tranmere and Bradford, Dempster expects him to stay.

“I have verbal conversations with agents and managers about Danny – there is interest in him,” said Dempster.

“But, having sat down with him at the end of last season, Danny was keen to stay. He seemed to be very motivated towards next season and really positive about making an impact as he has a very disappointing season last season.”

The 25-year-old began his career with Barnsley and had a couple of years with Bury before moving to Field Mill. He’s scored 32 times in 130 outings, with 17 goals coming in 40 appearances in 2017/18.

He struggled last season as the Stags narrowly missed out on promotion which was a result of a number of factors, as Dempster revealed.

“There were many factors that went into why he had probably a more challenging season last season, including his injuries.

“He is a bit of an all-rounder in terms of he can run in behind, he can hold the ball up, he wins free kicks high up the pitch – which is key at League Two level for set plays – and he is a grafter.”

Our View

We like Danny Rose here at the Real EFL. He is a grafter, his work rate is excellent and he proved a year or so ago he’s more than comfortable in a decent League Two side.

Mansfield would do well to hang on to him if a League One side come knocking, but the other interest is surely pointless. Salford will need a huge bid to tempt him away and Bradford have already got James Vaughan and Clayton Donaldson and won’t be able to offer Rose first team football.
