Carlisle United have added defender Byron Webster to their ranks this afternoon, making him their sixth summer signing.
The 32-year-old has most recently been with Scunthorpe United in League One, making just nine appearances for them as they slipped out of the league last season.
Webster began his career with York City, but has also featured for Banik Most, Yeovil and Millwall in a long and varied career. He spent the best of his days at the Den, where he racked up 138 appearances, 28 of which came in the Championship.
Cumbrians boss Steven Pressley is delighted with his capture, saying: “I think in key areas of the pitch you require players with a degree of experience and knowledge. Byron certainly ticks those boxes.
“He’s a hugely imposing figure and he knows what it’s like to be promoted, having achieved that from League One to the Championship. He’s a leader, a great character and he’s actually a very good football player as well.
“He’ll be a great influence on our younger players and the leadership qualities he has will naturally shine through, as they tend to do with players of that kind.
“For a central defender, the age of 32 can almost be the peak of your career and that means we’re getting him at a very good time.”
Fans of lower league football have been responding to the news, offering their opinions on the signing.
