‘God help us’ – These Sunderland fans react to club’s social media post

40 days until we go again. That’s the message coming out of the Stadium of Light this morning, via their Twitter feed.

Ha’away the lads. Trying to drum up some enthusiasm, the club have added a GIF of a goal celebration. Not one from the play-off final mind, they couldn’t get the crucial goal in that encounter.

In fact, the fans reacting on Twitter are struggling to see the positives behind the current rhetoric. The long-awaited takeover is still awaited, the long-awaited signings have yet to arrive. Two Wembley appearances last season didn’t bring a trophy nor promotion and they’re facing a tough start to the new campaign.

Sunderland are a huge club for the third-tier and they’re likely to be everyone’s cup final. Supporters of Lincoln City and MK Dons will have looked at the fixture list planning for the Mackems tie with anticipation. Portsmouth will want to get their own back as well; top or bottom, everyone wants a piece of Jack Ross’ side.

Their supporters know this too, which is why they’re less than enthused about the prospect of another season in League One, especially with the current uncertainty, as you’ll read from their rather bitter replies below.
