Sunderland fans eager to see Peterborough man Marcus Maddison at their club might have a longer wait, with Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony claiming that the Black Cats are not interested in the winger.
Maddison is a former Newcastle trainee, but a boyhood Sunderland fan who would surely strike a chord with their supporters. He’s been in demand for a couple of seasons, offering versatility on the left on always amongst the goals or assists. He was recently voted in the Chronicle as one of the players fans on Wearside wanted to see at their club.
Last season it was thought Derby, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough all wanted to add him to their ranks on the back of a superb campaign at London Road in which he bagged eight goals and weighed in with 15 assists. The moves didn’t materialise and instead he remained at Posh where, once again, he hit eight goals but created 16.
MacAnthony has claimed that Sunderland fans can ‘forget’ a move, suggesting Sunderland director of football ‘RH’ doesn’t rate the player. That’s Richard Hill, the former Eastleigh, Whitehawk and Stevenage manager, who is now head of football operations at the Stadium of Light.
Our View
Maddison didn’t make it with the Geordies, but it only took one season at Gateshead for Posh to recognise his talents. He bagged 14 in 38 matches before moving to Peterborough and currently has 42 in 177 for Posh, with far more assists.
They’re great stats and that’s reflective of his talents. If Sunderland do not rate him, which I find astounding, then it’s going to be their loss. He’d be a popular signing and as this summer drags on, they need that boost.

Well thats more info from him than thats coming out of SOL….haway tell us about the take over , is it on or off ? Souter.
What the hell is going on at our famous club ,no signings ,no clues on takeover ,no updates ,has the manager been curtailed to looking or even signing anyone .
With 8 games to go last season we were on our way up then the roof fell in .
Players have left academy players taken by premier clubs ,.I travel over 5-6 times per year to home games from N Ireland last year this year I might not even bother .Thought we were in for greater times once we got rid of the yank couple yes from now we could be playing Darlington or Gateshead
Let’s get things sorted now .John .
