Bradford City suffer blow as Tranmere enter striker race

Bradford City look to face an uphill battle in the hunt for striker James Vaughan after another club entered the hunt, as reported by Alan Nixon of the Sun.

It had been reported, again by Nixon, that the Bantams were ‘in and trying’ for the former Everton striker. He’s a free agent after leaving Wigan in the summer, following a failed loan with Portsmouth.

This morning, news has broken that he’s also being coveted by Tranmere, something likely to offer a problem to Gary Bowyer. They can offer Vaughan League One football, something that Bradford lost in May following relegation.

The Bantams have recruited well so far this summer, capturing Paudie O’Connor last week in addition to Jackson Longridge and Clayton Donaldson. They’re hoping to bounce straight back into League One under the management of Bowyer.

As for Tranmere, they’re are hoping to replace James Norwood and reportedly see Vaughan as the ideal replacement.

Our View

Bradford might be disappointed here; Vaughan has never played in the basement division and he’d be a real coup, but will he want to drop that low?

With decent offers potentially coming in from a League One club, competition is going to be fierce.

It might be that Bowyer now has to turn his attention elsewhere as he hunts a partner or alternative for Donaldson.
