Rochdale youngster close to Premier League switch

Norwich City are close to signing Rochdale teenager Daniel Adshead after agreeing a £300,000 fee as reported by Football Insider.

Adshead has been linked to both Manchester clubs and Liverpool in the past but chose to make his breakthrough at Rochdale. The seventeen-year-old made sixteen senior appearances last season after making his first-team debut aged just sixteen in the 2017/18 campaign.

The England under-18 attacking midfielder made a second-half appearance in the 6-1 FA Cup fifth-round replay defeat to Tottenham at Wembley in February 2018 and scored the first senior goal of his career in December 2018 in a 2-0 EFL Trophy win over Oldham Athletic.

The report claims a Norwich source has told Football Insider the club are on the verge of luring the seventeen-year-old to Carrow Road and are confident of doing so before he turns eighteen in September.

Rochdale are reluctant to lose the teenager, but they would not stand in the way of Adshead moving to the Premier League and have agreed on a fee of £300,000 with the Canaries.

Norwich have been linked with several young prospects this summer as they look to continue to invest in the club’s development set-up.

Our View

The fact of life for lower-league clubs is when you develop a gem it is not long before bigger clubs come calling.

It is Norwich City policy to look for young talent lower down the leagues, and this deal would seem likely with Rochdale bringing in much-needed cash for the player.

Rochdale fans know how good he is with the potential to play at the highest level.

It will be interesting to see how this one turns out, but we don’t see Adshead hanging around too long in the Academy side.
