Gillingham and Bristol Rovers eye move for recently released 24-year-old striker

Gillingham and Bristol Rovers are eying a move for recently released former Colchester United forward Mikael Mandron as reported by HITC Sport.

The report claims HITC Sport sources have revealed to them that Scottish Premiership club Hearts are also in the frame to sign the big Frenchman.

Mandron joined Colchester from Wigan Athletic in 2017 and made ninety-five appearances for the U’s, finding the net twelve times during his two-year spell at the club.

Last summer, he was linked with a move to Peterborough United, Lincoln City and Dutch club FC Utrecht.

The powerful twenty-four-year-old striker started his career at Sunderland where he was loaned out to Shrewsbury, Hartlepool and Fleetwood Town before signing permanently for National League Eastleigh in 2016.

Ten Goals in twenty-four National League starts for the Spitfires persuaded the Latics to pay an undisclosed fee for the powerful forward in January 2017, but the move didn’t work out, and Mandrom signed for the U’s six months later.

The report claims both League One sides are looking to bolster their attacks and Mandron figures on their list of targets.

Our View

Mandron can be a real handful on his day, and while he may not be a prolific goalscorer, he can hold up play and is a powerful runner, adding physicality to any forward line.

At 6ft 3in, he is also terrific in the air and is still young enough to improve his game and add more goals to his locker.

He might not be an eye-watering signing for either Rovers or Gillingham, but we are pretty sure he could do an excellent job in League One and will only get better with the right coaching.
