Grimsby Town have been busy over the last few days as they begin their pre-season recruitment drive.
At the end of last week, they signed 32-year-old Matt Green from Salford City. Green, an EFL Trophy winner with Lincoln in 2018, joins after just six months at Salford.
They were then linked with a move for former striker Andy Cook. He played League One football for Walsall last season, bagging 17 goals in all competitions. The Saddlers were relegated and he’s now considered to be a target for Michael Jolley,
As if that wasn’t enough, reports have emerged today that they’re also looking at AFC Wimbledon forward James Hanson. He’s an old-school target man, a burly 31-year-old with a fine track record with Bradford City, whom he helped to promotion and a League Cup final in 2013.
It’s all very positive for the Mariners, who also tempted Kristian Dennis there on loan at the end of last season. If they’re going to challenge for a top seven spot they need experience in key areas, as well as a physical presence up front. Cook or Hanson would bring the presence, along with Green they have goals and all three are experienced.
However, Grimsby fans have been dubious as to the latest round of rumours, with opinion split on Twitter as to whether its a good move or not. Fans of other clubs have also chipped in with their opinion on James Hanson.
He gives 100% and is a very nice fella. It's all about playing to his strengths like any big target man!

Matt I think James Hanson would be a real good signing if we can provide the service for him. Are we close to signing him in your opinion?

Be a good signing for #gtfc. He wasn't fit enough for us, target man and contributed well to keeping us up at the end of the season when he was available

31yr old Hanson with 32yr old Green up front? plenty of experience but theyve gotta hit the ground running straight away as times not on their side

Would bring options and experience, proven at this level, get it done. Willing to take a pay cut shows someone who wants to be here.
