Ipswich Town and Doncaster Rovers are keen on recently released Rotherham United defender Dominic Ball as reported by the News & Journal.
Ball has spent the last two season on-loan at Aberdeen, but according to reports north of the border he’s rejected the opportunity to return to PittodrieĀ in search of a club in England, and the News & Journal are stating that both Ipswich and Doncaster areĀ keen on the defender.
The twenty-three-year-old is predominantly a centre-back but can play full-back or in a defensive midfield role. Ball made forty appearances for Aberdeen across all competitions last season, and manager Derek McInnes was keen to sign the utility man permanently.
While a deal for Ball remains on the table at the Dons, it now looks like the former Tottenham trainee will be playing in the EFL next season.
He has previously enjoyed loan spells at Rangers, Cambridge United and Peterborough.
He made only fifteen appearances in his three years at the Millers after signing from Spurs in 2016.
Our View
Ball divides opinion amongst Aberdeen fans with some feeling he had a good season in 2018/19 while others will not be sorry he’s decided not to make a permanent move to Pittodrie.
He is young and ambitious, but I am not convinced he is of the calibre either side should be looking at if they sincerely want to mount a League One promotion challenge.
In all honesty, I would expect him to be a squad player at both clubs.
