Exeter City are now in pole position to sign promising full-back Noah Smerdon, but an official bid has not been made yet as reported by Gloucestershire Live.
The youngster has been playing for Gloucester City after leaving the West Bromwich Albion Academy two years ago to study for his A” Levels at a local school and play for his hometown club.
His display’s for the Tigers have attracted several scouts from the Premier League including Chelsea, and the report claims the eighteen-year-old trained with Watford last season.
Smerdon also played in a trial game for Forest Green Rovers and spoke to them about a move to the New Lawn, but this option is now thought to be at a standstill.
The report also claims West Brom would be entitled to compensation for the part they played in his development and reaching an agreement with the Baggies is an added complication to the move.
The young full-back enjoyed a great season at Gloucester, helping them push on to safety in National League South.
One for the future for Exeter but quite the coup if they land the player despite Premier League interest.
The youngster is a former England Schoolboy international and has pedigree so he could be one to watch if the Grecians do manage to land their man.
