Striker Matt Green has left Salford City shortly after they won promotion to League Two.
A short message on their Twitter account confirmed that Green, who signed a two-and-a-half-year deal in December, is departing the Ammies after just six months of his deal.
He bagged four goals in 21 outings for them after joining from Lincoln City. The former Mansfield man helped the Imps to the EFL Trophy final last season, as well as a play-off spot, but struggled to hold down a place in the first team after the arrival of John Akinde.
He’s now on the lookout for a new club, but on Twitter there seems to be a suggestion he could be returning to Lincolnshire. Having spent much of his recent career in the East Midlands, with Mansfield and the Imps, he is heavily rumoured to be joining up with Grimsby Town.
The Lincolnshire club have struggled to get a foothold in the League Two promotion race since coming up from the National league in 2016, but responses to the player’s departure on Twitter all seem to point towards the same thing; Green becoming a Mariner.
Another train of thought is that he could be due a Mansfield Town return. He’s enjoyed two successful spells with the club, but found himself frozen out under Steve Evans, who left after releasing Green on a free transfer.

I thought Matt Green had another two years on his contract. He must have received a decent pay off. Another very expensive signing for Salford but I suppose you can afford it.
