The appointment of Ryan Lowe as Plymouth Argyle’s new manager is leading to speculation there will be several more arrivals from Bury at Home Park in the coming days.
Plymouth Live is reporting they expect more arrivals and understand there is a possibility up to three players from Lowe’s League Two promotion-winning Bury squad could join their former manager on the Devon coast.
The financially stricken Shakers have already lost influential midfielder Nicky Adams to Northampton Town, and with reports the club has struggled to pay its players for several months it will be little surprise if there is a mass exodus of talent from the Lancashire club this summer.
Lowe produced a side at Bury that played attractive football on their way to finishing second in League Two last season. Their standout performers in an eye-catching team were winger Danny Mayor and midfielder Jay 0’Shea who, along with goalkeeper Joe Murphy, were all named in the divisions PFA Team of the Year.
Lowe is yet to talk to the press since his appointment, but when he does, he is sure to have to answer questions on whether any of his talented former squad will be following his lead and making the journey south.
Our View
Plymouth fans will be hoping the undoubted bond that Lowe formed with his players last season which saw them win promotion despite all the upheaval off the pitch will lead to some outstanding players following him to Home Park.
However, players such as Mayor and O’Shea are likely to have interest from clubs in League One, which may test their loyalty to their recently departed manager.
For Bury fans, it would just pour salt into the wound, but many will probably feel the survival of their famous old club is more important than players departing at the moment.
