Northampton Town have moved quickly to sign up Nicky Adams, who yesterday confirmed he had left Bury following a contract dispute.
Adams signed a new deal with the Shakers in March, but their ongoing problems saw the FA reject the paperwork. That left Adams free to pursue a move and with surprising speed, he’s turned up at Sixfields.
He’s penned a two-year deal with the ambitious Cobblers, who are hoping for a promotion challenge after their first season back in League Two ended in midtable obscurity.
The 32-year-old is no stranger to the club having played a key part in their promotion season of 2015/16. He’s led the assists stats in two of his last three seasons in League Two and Keith Curle is clearly overjoyed to have him back at the club, having also managed him at Carlisle United.
“I don’t think I really need to say too much about Nicky,” he told the club’s official site.
“Supporters here know all about him and the quality he has. He has been a hugely popular figure wherever he has played and I am delighted to be able to bring him back to the club.”
It’s a move which has taken many by surprise, not least journalist Alan Nixon who tipped him to go to either Salford or Plymouth, but Cobblers supporters will get to see him in action once more.
They’re pretty excited about it as well.
Stop it! No seriously, you're making me dream of promotion! Bad football club, bad! ??

Well to say I’m surprised and happy in equal measures is putting it lightly.
