Coventry City chief executive Dave Boddy is still holding out hope that defender Jordan Willis will sign a new deal with the club, as revealed by Coventry Live.
The 24-year-old is out of contract this summer and although a new deal is on the table, he’s yet to make a decision. He has been linked with a move to Championship new boys Luton Town, but his current situation is unclear.
Boddy has said that he still holds out some hope that the homegrown defender might return to the Sky Blues next season.
“We haven’t had an answer,” he said. “The offer is still on the table but obviously as we sign players then the option probably disappears.
“We can’t wait for him so if we sign further players then the option might go away. “I wouldn’t rule it out either way but the longer it goes on the less chance there is of it happening. Interestingly, he hasn’t signed for anyone else yet.”
Willis has been capped by England at Under 18 and Under 19 level and is currently a one-club man, having played all of his football for the Sky Blues.
He made his debut in 2011 in the Championship and has represented them in all three divisions of the EFL, as well as helping them to EFL Trophy success in 2017.
Our View
Willis is clearly a player they want to see remain at the club, otherwise that offer would have been pulled by now.
No player is bigger than a team, but in this instance, it almost feels like a ‘last chance’ plea.
If he’s that valuable, one would imagine that he’ll get a few more last chances and even then if he misses his final last chance, they’d still welcome him back if he rocked up on their doorstep.
