Swindon Town have announced the signing of Tyler Reid from Swansea City on a two-year deal.
The right-back will officially join the Robins on 1 July when his current deal with the Swans expires.
Reid was part of a hugely successful U-23 set-up in Wales winning a league and cup double in his first season. He was spotted initially by Arsenal but moved to Manchester United at fourteen-years-old working under Nicky Butt and playing alongside Marcus Rashford.
Things didn’t work out for Reid at Old Trafford, but his move to Swansea in 2016 eventually led to a first-team appearance in the EFL Cup against Crystal Palace.
The twenty-one-year-old has some League Two experience having enjoyed a loan spell at Newport County in the second half of the 2017/18 season making seven appearances for the Exiles.
Reid told the club’s official website: ‘All I want to do is fight for first-team football,’ while manager Richie Wellens admitted to tracking the youngster’s progress for some time and believing ‘he’s at a good age and is a permanent deal which is important to us, and he’s hungry.’
Swindon fans soon took to Twitter to comment on the signing which seems to further cast doubt on the future of current right-back Kyle Knoyle who has refused to put pen to paper on a new deal.
