Grimsby Town’s 18-year-old striker Rumarn Burrell has joined Championship side Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee, as reported by the Grimsby Telegraph.
Dean, who was only offered pro terms with the Mariners in April, made his breakthrough at the end of the season with Michael Jolley experimenting with his side as they settled for a midtable finish.
He was yesterday linked with a £100,000 switch to Boro, with the deal confirmed shortly afterwards for an ‘undisclosed fee’, standard practice in the EFL these days.
Burrell made four late appearances as a sub against Stevenage, Colchester, Notts County and Crewe. During those brief run outs, he clearly caught the eye of the Boro scouts and the deal was quickly sealed.
It’s been hit with mixed reaction from the Grimsby fans. Most are delighted for the lad, securing a professional deal at such a big club, but others are wondering exactly what has become of their club. Not so long ago the Mariners were a Championship staple, but these days they’re struggling to get out of the bottom half of the basement division.
With them selling off their crown jewels, some fans don’t see how they’re going to progress.
Good luck to the lad, cant stand in the way of him going higher, MJ has hopefully got some extra funds for the playing budget and hopefully weve got some form of sell on clause in the deal. Fair play to the lad 👍🏻👍🏻

Hopefully helps the transfer budget, shame to not get to see more of him but great move hope it goes well. But whether they break into our team or get poached in this fashion it's a success for us and our youth team and credit to them for doing so well recently

Shambles we have become. Don't even give our prospects a couple of years in first team like in old days. We promote 3 YT players and sell one a month later. No ambition. Not having a go at the lad but the club

Let's look at it as a positive we are producing players that are attracting bigger clubs and not token gesture 1 year deals for youngsters not good enough. My only hope is the money is utilised in Jolly's budget UTM

How is that for the good of the fans….or transparancy of the sport

Good luck to the lad. Shame the Mariners will not see his development, but shows the great work Neil woods is doing. A fee of 100 grand could pay for the youth set up for next season. #gtfc
