Carlisle boss Steven Pressley has confirmed he remains interested in twenty-four-year-old forward Nathan Thomas.
Thomas has been placed on the transfer list by Sheffield United after enjoying a successful loan spell in Cumbria in the second half of the 2018/19 season, scoring four goals in sixteen League Two appearances.
Thomas joined the Blades on a three-year-deal from Hartlepool in 2017 but failed to establish himself at Bramall Lane. He went out on loan to Shrewsbury and Notts County before arriving at Brunton Park.
After Chris Wilder’s men achieved promotion to the Premier League, Thomas was made available for transfer and after impressing Pressley during his time with the club the former Falkirk, Coventry and Fleetwood boss told the News & Star: ‘Nathan is one we are keeping close tabs on just now.’
‘He is one that we would like to bring back but it would either be a situation where he comes to some form of agreement with his club, or we’d have to consider the loan option again.’
‘These are two options we’d certainly consider. But he is certainly a high priority for us.’
It could be a busy summer for Pressley, having so far signed three defenders since the end of the 2018/19 season, he still only has eleven senior players signed up for next season after defender Macaulay Gillesphey’s departure earlier this week.
Our View
Thomas is still keen to stay in Yorkshire and fight for his place despite being placed on the transfer list.
He enjoyed his time at Carlisle, but this one does not look a straightforward deal.
However, many Blades fans feel League Two is his level, and a return to Cumbria might kick start his career after failing to kick on after a fruitful spell at Hartlepool.
Carlisle must be in the driving seat to secure his services, but Pressley might have to be patient to get his man.
