‘What an absolute gentleman!’ – Loads of Sunderland fans are loving Stewart Donald’s latest tweet

It is sure to be a tense, nerve-wracking evening for those Sunderland fans making the long journey to watch their side in the League One play-off semi-final with Portsmouth at Fratton Park tonight.

Most will have already set off on the journey south to see if their side can defend their 1-0 aggregate lead and make it to Wembley for a second time this season and keep their hopes of an immediate return to the Championship alive.

It is a 666-mile round trip and as all travelling fans know, a suitable place to stop and have a rest on those arduous long trips to some far-flung away ground can be hard to find.

Black Cats chairman Stewart Donald has come up with a solution and at the same time garnered an immense amount of goodwill from the Black Cats supporters anxiously making their way to the South Coast.

In a tweet posted this morning, Donald has suggested they stop off at his old club Eastleigh, situated on the outskirts of Southampton, for some much need refreshment and in a wonderful gesture hinted it was ‘the chairman’s turn to get you all a beer.’

Fans soon reacted to the tweet in an unsurprisingly positive manner. It should be quite a party at the National League Club this afternoon.

Here is a selection of the delighted Black Cat supporter’s responses.

  1. Well whoopy do!
The tyre kicker and his mate are about to be deluged with a multi million pound pay day when he sells to the yank consortium.
Millions made from an acquisition using parachute payments.
Fans fall for this faux largesse yet demonise short who actually spent his own money ( north of 100m )trying to make the club something only to be let down by rubbish managers.
