Sky pundit tips Charlton for play-off success, heartbreak for Doncaster

Sky TV’s David Prutton has tipped Charlton to come out on top in their play-off semi-final second leg this week against Doncaster Rovers.

The former Leeds and Nottingham Forest player has a column called ‘Prutton Predicts’ on the Sky website, where he usually looks at the key Championship matches.

As you know, the second-tier is no place for us to be straying, but occasionally he drops into the real EFL to offer a prediction or two. Enter this fine website!

The Addicks first leg victory gives them a slender lead to defend and having lost just one of their last 16 matches, they’re red hot favourites to progress to the Wembley final.

That’s a view shared by Prutton, who believes they’ll triumph 1-0 in the much-awaited clash this Friday.

“I thought Charlton were really good in the first leg, they were very composed and controlled the game,” wrote Prutton.

“There was a slight touch of fortune with both goals, but they seemed to be in control of the game. Matty Blair’s goal does give Donny a glimmer of hope, but they just seemed to lack a bit of belief that they could actually get something from the game.

“I can see Charlton going through, especially given the form that they’re in. They’ve won the last six at home and are unbeaten in their last 13 games. They’re in terrific form, and I think Donny will find it tough.”

The Addicks have won eight of their last nine fixtures and were last beaten at the Valley in the FA Cup in December, ominously by Doncaster Rovers.

Our View

We think Donny will find it tough too. If they’d got a result of any kind, then maybe it would be jittery for the hosts, but they didn’t. Now they need to go and attack Charlton, which should lead to an open game.

If they get an early goal it’ll put the cat amongst the pigeons, but the longer the tie goes on, the more we think Lee Bowyer will lead his team out at Wembley.
