102 goals in 127 matches: Stevenage grab prolific Cowley

Stevenage have made their first signing for the summer by swooping for Bromsgrove Sports striker Jason Cowley.

The non-league hotshot has a staggering 102 goals in 127 appearances and pens a one-year deal with Dino Maamria’s side.

He was a key part of the the Rouslers squad, having helped earn them promotion to the Southern Premier League Central this season.

His new side narrowly missed out on the League Two play-offs and Maamria will be hoping the capture of the prolific Cowley will help them go one better next season.

The 23-year-old is delighted to have made the step up and can’t wait to get started on his Football League career,

“This is the challenge I have wanted for a long time so I am ready to get my head down and do what I am here to do,” he told the club’s official website.

“I am hungry, aggressive and love scoring goals. I can’t wait to grasp this opportunity with both hands.”

He also thanked his former club for their help in his achieving his goals, telling the Bromsgrove Standard; “It’s been my dream since I was six years old and now I have achieved it, I want to progress more and become better and better.

“I can’t thank the club enough for helping me get to where I am today.”

Our View

Two years ago, Cheltenham signed a prolific non-league striker by the name of Mo Eisa, one year later he moved for £1m to Bristol City.

There are gems out there, but they need finding, polishing and developing.

Cowley’s record speaks for itself, but the hard work is yet to be done. This could be a shrewd move, or it could be the last we hear of the 23-year-old.
