Joey Barton has released a statement denying any wrongdoing in the recent incident that left Daniel Stendel bleeding this weekend.
Barton and Stendel clashed at the end of a fiery 4-2 win for the Tykes which ended any slim hopes Barton had of putting his team in the top six. Temperatures were raised following the sending off of Harry Souttar, which led to confrontations on the touch line.
They continued after the final whistle, with striker Cauley Woodrow tweeting his anger but later deleting his post. Police confirmed that a man arrested at the scene has been released on police bail.
Barton has since put out a social media post of his own, saying; “With regards to the alleged incident on Saturday following our game against Barnsley, I emphatically deny all the allegations made. Given this matter has not been formally closed, it would be inappropriate for me to make any further comment.”
The incident was also reported to the FA and will now hang over Fleetwood until the end of the season.
Fans have been taking to twitter to mock Barton, with over 1000 replies to his rebuke of the allegations.
Here’s the pick of those responses.
