Mr Consistent; that’s the billing one of Mansfield Town’s supporters has given their Team of the Year entrant, Mal Benning.
Benning features in the EFL’s League Two Team of the Year and is also hoping to see his Mansfield Town teammates seal promotion over the next five matches.
He’s been on Twitter, claiming it is an honour to be in the EFL’s team, but that there’s a job to do with five matches still to go.
Benning has been tremendous for Mansfield this season and whilst their recent form has seen them fall away from the title chase, they’re still looking good for automatic promotion.
They’ve been resolute at the back all season, with former Walsall defender Benning a key part of that in his fourth season with the club. Along with the likes of Kristian Pearce and Neil Bishop, the Stags spine has seen them climb to level on points with MK Dons in the top three.
There’s even a call from one fan for him to be knighted, should the Stags reach the promised land of League One.
