Charlton Athletic moved to within a point of Portsmouth in League One last night, with a 1-0 win away at Wycombe Wanderers.
Jason Pearce grabbed the only goal of the game to give them yet another win and stretch their unbeaten run to ten matches.
The win also moved them to within four points of the automatic promotion spots, courtesy of Sunderland’s 1-1 draw with Burton Albion. The Brewers have done Lee Bowyer’s side a double favour this week, having already beaten Barnsley 3-1 at the weekend.
The Addicks have just five matches left to play and whilst turmoil rages on away from the green rectangle, on the field they’re doing their very best to make this a season to remember for the fans at the Valley.
They face leaders Luton Town this weekend at home, before four very winnable games to conclude the normal season. Scunthorpe, Oxford, Gillingham and Rochdale have all endured tough campaigns, three are still haunted by possible relegation but Lee Bowyer’s side will not bother one bit.
They’ll be looking at a possible 12 points and wondering if maybe, just maybe they could sneak into the top two.
Their fans certainly think it’s on.
