Gary Bowyer yesterday took over at League One crisis club Bradford City, with a simple remit: keep us in the division.
Bowyer has been out of work since walking out on Blackpool at the beginning of the season, but has been linked to numerous jobs since. He’s opted to make Valley Parade his temporary home, with the Bantams verging on a desperate relegation battle.
They’re 23rd in League One, five points from safety having been thumped 5-1 by Portsmouth this weekend. they’re now on their third manager of the season, following the sacking of Michael Collins and departure of David Hopkin.
The relationship between the club and the fans has been rocky, with unpopular chairman Edin Rahic leaving earlier in the season, but the problems that dogged his time at the club still evident.
This weekend captain Aaron O’Connor appeared to throw his armband away, enraging fans and forcing an apology.
They’ll be hoping that today’s shock appointment gives them the impetus needed to retain their third tier status. there’s certainly a swell of approval growing for the former Blackburn boss, as you can see below.

Well done to all at #bcafc
Given our predicament I’m quite pleased with the appointment of Gary Bowyer, who’ll deservedly earn a big bonus if he keeps us up.
Downside is it’s initially only till May, so we don’t want a repeat of Simon Grayson and finding another man in the summer— Bantam Pete (@BantamPete) March 4, 2019
Hopefully we’ll finally get that new manager bounce that every other team seem to get

Last time I actually remember that happening was Bryan Robson and us beating Millwall with a late winner. #bcafc
