Tottenham Hotspur are pondering a swoop for Notts County’s young striker Kion Etete after he scored twice for their under 18s after spending the week on trial.
The exciting forward hit a brace in their 4-0 win over West Ham on Saturday, leaving him waiting to find out if it is enough to impress the Premier League giants, as reported by the Daily Mail.
The powerful 17-year-old only signed his first professional contract with the Magpies in November, but they’re rooted to the bottom of League Two and face an uncertain financial future.
He made his debut in the EFL trophy against Newcastle Under 21s whilst still a 16-year-old, signing his first pro contract on his birthday. He’s made a total of six appearances for County, prompting spurs to take a look.
It’s thought they’ll monitor his progress over the coming weeks, but a sale might be inevitable given the financial insecurity currently overshadowing the survival effort at Meadow Lane.
Our View
Etete is an exciting prospect and there’s a hint of Jermaine Pennant about this. he came through the ranks at County, but later moved without making an impact on the first team.
If Etete does move and goes on to greater success it could bring a cash windfall to County, but will it be too little, too late?
