Charlton Athletic owner Roland Duchatelet has blocked a move for a Karlan Grant replacement, as reported by the South London Press.
The Addicks boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that the controversial owner refused to sanction a move for former Wolves striker Joe Mason.
Bowyer wanted the 27-year-old to replace Grant, the academy product sold for £2m in the January window, but his efforts we thwarted by Duchatelet.
“He (Mason) is the one that we were looking to bring in,” Bowyer revealed.
“But I got a phone call from Steve Gallen (head of recruitment) literally 10 minutes ago saying the owner said no, we can’t bring in another striker because we’ve got Lyle (Taylor), Josh (Parker) and Igor (Vetokele).”
Mason began his career with Plymouth Argyle, before leaving to join Cardiff City at the age of 20. He has gone on to play for Wolves as well as having loan spells with Burton Albion, Colorado Rapids and Portsmouth.
Charlton are currently in the League One play-off places, but are looking to get back to winning ways after failing to win any of their last three matches.
Our View
That man is stifling a great little club, a side who should and could be doing much better than they are.
Why can Bowyer not reinvest some of the income from selling Grant in the playing squad? It’s utterly ridiculous and an affront to fans who pay their money every week.
If he’s not careful, he’ll lose Bowyer who is proving to be a very good manager in his first role.
