Colchester United manager John McGreal has been updating fans as to the latest news regarding the current transfer window.
With just seven days remaining, The U’s have yet to make any moves in the amrket, but McGreal told local press that he’s working hard to bring someone in, although one deal collapsed at the end of last week.
He’s also revealed that a Championship club has moved for one of his players, but he wouldn’t reveal which one, claiming it was now up to the recruitment team to deem whether he had to sell or not.
“A Championship club and a club at the top end of League One had been in touch, so it’s over to (Director of Football) Tony (Humes) and (chairman) Robbie (Cowling) really,” he told the Green Un 24.
“The interest has not surprised me, it’s only come a bit later than I would have expected. We had hoped that it would have come sooner, if anything. I’m still looking to add. We thought we had a player last week, but we couldn’t get it over the line.”
Colchester are currently seventh in League Two, but have assembled a side of very capable players who are bound to be of interest to clubs higher up. They were unlucky at the weekend, going 2-0 up against Mansfield Town before conceding three second half goals to sink to a 3-2 defeat.
Our View
It has to be Szmodics. He’s such a talent, he’s a real driving force behind the strong season Colchester are having and he’s destined for bigger and better things. he’s comfortable on the ball and can create chances for the strikers with relative ease.
Frank Nouble and Mikael Mandron are both talented players up top for Colchester, but if anyone is going to be the subject of a bid it is the youth team product with 32 goals from 145 appearances.
