Doncaster Rovers look set to turn their attentions to Ireland in a bid for new faces, with a double swoop lined up for January.
They’re going to complete a move for Kieran Sadlier in the near future, with his former Cork City team-mate Sean McLoughlin also thought to be on their radar.
Sadlier, 24, is currently a free agent, having returned to England after his Cork contract expired following the FAI Cup final. He was watched in that game by Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley, but it seems that League One football is drawing him to Doncaster.
He is a former Ireland Under-21 international who left England to resurrect his career, spending time at both Cork and Sligo Rovers. he had previously been a youth player at West Ham, as well as appearing for Peterborough and St Mirren.
The attacking midfielder has also been the subject of interest from Rotherham United, Portsmouth and Swindon, but Grant McCann appears to have won the race for his services.
He could be followed to the Keepmoat Stadium by Sean McLoughlin as they plot a double swoop. The 22-year old has reportedly been the subject of an official bid, although the two valuations do not match at present.
He’s got a year left to run on his contract and is also thought to be attracting interest from League Two.
Our View
The scouts were flocking to Cork towards the end of their season, mainly for Sadlier but also for a number of their other stars.
There’s going to be three or four appear in England later this year, that much is almost certain. It’s an attractive move for the players wanting a stab at the Football League.
Sadlier looks certain to join Doncaster, but don’t be surprised if McLoughlin ends up elsewhere.
