The rift between fans and Plymouth Argyle seems to be widening at the moment, as the beleaguered Pilgrims sink to the bottom of League One.
They’ve got jut seven points this season and are clearly struggling, but recently things have taken a sinister turn. Fans have been chanting that manager Derek Adams should be sacked and the club have responded to that and some of the personal abuse being suffered by club representatives.
They released a statement that said: “Occasionally, though, the passion and enthusiasm oversteps the mark and the voice becomes unacceptably abusive. We are also a family club, committed to making Home Park a place that is free from racism, intimidation, victimisation or harassment, and which is inclusive for all.”
“Everyone at the club shares the frustration of the majority of the Green Army regarding our start to the season, and we expect that to be reflected in complaint and criticism. However, we cannot and will not allow Plymouth Argyle employees to suffer extreme and intolerable levels of personal abuse, and we will seek to protect them from that.”
That has brought fans to twitter to express their utter disgust at the situation and the management of the club. It seems with four point separating them and safety, this situation is likely to be ongoing. If it continues for too long, it could mean another spell in League Two.
After your tweet read this statement! Crazy! If youre performing badly & fans want change then the socalled 'yobs' are entitled to voice their opinion.Maybe the manager and players should win some games. If some fans & manager can't handle criticism they shouldnt be in football

The club is falling apart!!! The fans is what makes the club. No manager or player is bigger than the club. We have one of the best fan base in the uk. This is a bad move from the club.

Bizarre statement, we choose to pay money to support the football club. Without the fans there’s nothing, and yet Adams has done all he can to alienate those fans when he needs them most.
We’re yobs who lack class and it’s our fault we’re in this state. 🙄— Bruce Burns (@brucers9) October 23, 2018

The right message but delivered in a wrong condescending and patronising tone

Numerous managers have had it far to easy for so many years without the Mayflower breathing down their neck. All it’s taken is 4 matches of using the Spion Kop to exit the pitch and we get a toys out of pram statement like this #Embarrassing #Clueless #Pafc

Woke up to a ‘Club Statement’ and it’s this? We pay a lot of money to support Argyle and have every right to voice our disgust at what is happening to our club. We will not be silenced 😡😡😡
