Gillingham youngster makes permanent Folkestone switch

Finn O’Mara has today left Gillingham on a permanent deal, joining up with Folkestone until the end of the current season.

The 19-year old has had two previous loan spells at the Fullicks Stadium. He ‘s been with Steve Lovell’s side for over six years at Priestfield, starting his career with the club at the age of 13.

He made his professional debut for Gillingham last season, coming off the bench at Ewood Park against Blackburn. His final appearance came just under a year ago in a 7-5 win over Reading in the Checkatrade Trophy.

The young defender can operate at right back or centre back, but having found his game time limited has now moved on to pastures new. O’Mara is eligible to play for Folkestone in their Bostick League game against Dorking tomorrow.

Our View

Sensible switch for the youngster, despite being with Gillingham since turning to a teenager, he’s not broken through in the way he might have hoped.

There’s always a route back, a stand out season with Folkestone in the Southern Premier League could se him rise again, as many young players do.
